Abstract

Jelutung (Dyera spp.) is a local species which is growing at peat swamp areas in Central Kalimantan, and today it has been protected by the government because it tends to be extinct. Yet, many people still hunt and cut the jelutung trees for getting cash by means of selling wood and seeds of jelutung trees. To protect the jelutung trees from the extinction, they should be cultivated with seedlings. The problem is the seedlings at nursery are always inundated by tidewater. To solve the problem, it is better to accelerate the height growth of the seedlings by shading. Besides, peat swamp soil used as media at nursery is very acid and poor and these can be solved by liming and fertilizing. The Objective of the research was to find out the optimum treatment combination of lime, fertilizer and shade. Factors applied were liming (A), fertilizing (B) and shading (C). Liming consisted of three levels, i.e. A0 = 0 g (control), A1 = 1.5 g and A2 = 3 g/400 g peat swamp soil. Fertilizing consisted of four levels, i.e. B0 = 0 g (control), B1=15 g, B2 = 20 g, and B3 = 25 g/400 g peat swamp soil. Shading consisted of four levels, i.e. C0 = control (without shading), C1 = 20%, C2 = 40%, and C3 = 60%. The result showed that the interaction between the concentration of lime at 1.5 g/400 g peat swamp soil, fertilizer at 15 g/400 g peat swamp soil, and shade at 40% level (A1B1C2) was the best treatment on the height increment of the jelutung seedlings. The height increment reached 25.58 cm within four months
